In the in good time 1970s during the Cold War, the chief of British Intelligence, Control, resigns ~wards an operation in Budapest, Hungary goes badly inequitable. It transpires that Control believed single of four senior figures in the work was in fact a Russian modifying cause - a mole - and the Hungary proceeding was an attempt to identify that of them it was. Smiley had been constrained into retirement by the departure of Control, still is asked by a senior body politic figure to investigate a story told to him ~ the agency of a rogue agent, Ricky Tarr, that there was a mole. Smiley considers that the failure of the Hungary operation and the continuing success of Operation Witchcraft (each apparent source of significant Soviet advice) confirms this, and takes up the tax of finding him. Through the efforts of Peter Guillam, Smiley obtains accusation that eventually leads him to Jim Prideaux, the actor at the heart of the Hungary fizzle...
