Star Trek: Legacy

Man, i hate this so far. All of our posts, except the AC6 one have been mostly negative reviews. But i have to add another one to the pile.

I bought Star Trek Legacy when it came out last year but never finished it. The game is buggy, has terrible controls and some really bad graphics at some points. Lets dive into this a bit more detailed.

Gameplay: You would think a 3rd person combat game based in the trek universe would be a no brainer. Well...you would be wrong. Even with Bethesda producing it(Mad Doc Software did most of the legwork) the game was nearly impossible to get started. Bad targeting controls, even worse documentation on how to use sub system targeting as well as so many bugs and glitches sometimes you didnt know if the mission was even functioning properly.

Graphics: This is a hard one to rate. Looking at the ship models at the beginning, i would have given it a 9/10. However, once you get into ship damage, some space stations and other larger ships like the Borg cube...the graphic quality is so uneven its not even funny. Battle damage on your ship, which ironically was supposed to be a big selling point of the game, turns out looking like a glowing star. Borg cube explosions look so terrible with colliding pieces it makes you laugh. However, the ship models and lighting are spectacular. It just seems like they didnt go the extra mile.

Audio: Cant complain about getting all the captains from all trek series, including janeway. However, it sounds like they sat down and phoned in their parts. Especially Avery Brooks who plays Captain Sisko, it sounded like he was yawning while reading his lines....which i have to say were terrible. Dialogue and story was pretty lame. Sound effects were straight from the shows, but the music was cheap synthesized crap. In some parts, ship rumble was so loud, it almost muted out the dialogue.

Replayability: Blah. Noone plays online, near impossible to get a multiplayer game going. There are multiple difficulty levels, but im not sure how fun they would be fighting harder AI opponents while battling game glitches and bugs.

All in all, i give this game a 2/5. Bethesda really screwed the pooch and made a BAD trek game. It had so much potential, though.

found it to be an interesting game mate. the missions are varied and no two see you doing the same thing. despite the buggy controls the interesting objectives in each mission and the impressive and fun battles helped me see through the game last yr. i tried it again last month again and still managed to have a decent amount of fun.
